There’s no software to download, all you have to do is hold down the OPTION and COMMAND buttons while launching Photos. You’ll need an Administrator name and password for the computer to authorize.
So, after I upgraded to macOS High Sierra 10.13, the Photos app updated and iMovie no longer attached it in the Library. What I had to do is to set “Use as system photo library” in the Photos preferences, but it was grayed out. In order to reset this, I had to launch Photos with the option key pushed and a menu will come up, create a new library. After created a new library, open it up go to preferences, set Use as system photo library and the new one shows up in the iMovie. Now, I open the original Photo Library with Photos, go to preferences and the option Use as system photo library available, set it and my old Photo Library appear again in iMovie. Delete the new library.
The hang has been going on for over 24 hours. Photos won't let you quit the application without force quitting. Which I did a couple of times before seeing a post that I shouldn't do it.
I have another program called Power Photos from which I can access all my libraries. It shows which library is active in Photos and you can select another one for Photos to open. It shows the hanging one as the one open in Photos.
I can view individual photos in Power Photos and open them in Preview. Should I try to get Power Photos to open the problem library?
Mac Photos Repairing Library Is Stuck In Lock
- Here’s one way to fix it. Find your Photos library and Control-click it. But my Mac’s Photos library was finally up to date with other devices in its iCloud account set.
- Apple provides a repair tool to address a corrupt Photos library. The repair tool examines the library's database and repairs any conflicts it senses. Depending on the magnitude and size of your library, the whole process could take a bit of time. When the process is done, Photos opens the library again, with your files intact.
- Oct 06, 2018 Recently, after using my Mac’s Photos app and uploading some photos, I wasn’t able to close Photos. I saw a pop-up message that Photos was “Closing the Library.” I left it “as is” for hours only to see that same message still there–it was still stuck on “Closing the Library.
